Turn RSS feed items into draft posts

Last updated on Oct 09, 2026

Got a company blog or a news feed? Flomixy can watch it and turn every new item into a draft post for you. You review the drafts and approve them like any other post.

Nothing is ever published automatically.

What you need

An RSS or Atom feed URL of your blog. The normal address of your blog (for example https://example.com/blog) will not work, because it is a web page, not a feed.

  • Feed URLs often end in /feed, /rss or /atom.xml. WordPress blogs use /feed/, for example https://example.com/feed/.
  • Not sure? Open your blog in a browser, view the page source and search for application/rss+xml or application/atom+xml. The href next to it is your feed URL.
  • The feed must be public. Feeds that need a login cannot be read.

No feed address? Paste your website

You don't have to know the feed URL. Paste the address of your website into Feed URL and click Find feed:

  • If the site announces a feed, the Feed URL is filled in and you see a preview of the first items.
  • If there is no feed but the site has a sitemap (sitemap.xml, or one listed in robots.txt), Flomixy uses it. Set the Path prefix first (for example /blog/) so only your blog pages are used. Up to 200 pages are added to the item library as New; each page's title, image and description are read from the page itself (og:title, og:image, meta description). A sitemap source is refreshed only by hand (Sync), about 15 pages are read per refresh, so press it again for larger blogs. Nothing is drafted automatically from a sitemap.
  • If neither is found, you see a message and nothing is created. Enter the feed address by hand.

Limits: pages that only appear through JavaScript, and content behind a login or paywall, can't be read. Addresses that redirect (for example http to https) are followed up to 3 times; addresses pointing to private or internal networks are refused.

Who can set this up

Account owners, Admins and Workspace owners can add, edit and delete feeds. Feeds belong to a brand, so pick the brand first.

Add a feed

  1. Go to Settings → Automation.
  2. Choose the Brand.
  3. Click Add your first feed (or Add feed if you already have some).
  4. Fill in:
    • Feed name, for you only, for example Company blog.
    • Feed URL, the public http or https address of the RSS or Atom feed.
    • Channel and Account, where the drafts will be aimed. The brand needs a connected account on that channel. If it has none, connect one on the Accounts page first.
  5. Click Add feed.

Items already in the feed when you add it never become drafts on their own. Only items that appear afterwards do, so adding a feed never floods your brand with old posts. The existing items are kept in the feed's item library (see below), where you can still pick them by hand.

When you add a feed you can tick Import existing feed items too. The existing items are then stored in the library as New (ready to pick) instead of Ignored. Either way, no drafts are created for them.

What a draft looks like

Flomixy checks your feeds every 15 minutes. For each new item it creates a draft with:

  • the item's title, description and link as the caption
  • the item's image as media, when the feed provides one

Open Posts to find the drafts, edit them, schedule them and send them for approval as usual. The same item is never drafted twice, even if you delete the draft.

The feed image

By default the image that comes with a feed item is attached to the draft. Untick Use the image from the feed when you add or edit a feed if you would rather add your own. In any draft you can replace the image, remove it or add more images, up to the limit of the network.

If the image can't be used (it can't be downloaded, isn't a supported image or is too large), the draft is still created, without an image, and the draft tells you why. Instagram needs at least one image, so add one before you schedule it. If the image is wider than Instagram allows in the feed, you'll see a note that Instagram will crop it. A square (1:1) or 4:5 version avoids that.

Pick items by hand: the item library

A feed only hands out its latest items (usually around 20). Flomixy keeps the items it has seen in a library per feed, up to 200, so you can choose what to use.

  1. Go to Settings → Automation and click the Open item library button on a feed.
  2. Search by title or description (capital letters don't matter), or filter by New, Ignored or Drafted.
  3. Tick the items you want. Items that are already drafted can't be selected again.
  4. Choose the Account, a Start date, how many posts per week, the days of the week and the time. The time is read in your workspace timezone.
  5. Click Create drafts.

You get one draft per selected item, with a suggested publish time each (for example Mon, Wed and Fri at 10:00 starting on 2 November). The drafts are not scheduled or published yet. The image is copied only for the items you draft, and if an image can't be used the draft is still created without it and the library says why.

Happy with the times? Click Schedule all. Every draft then goes through the normal flow: it is scheduled, or waits for approval if your brand requires it. Nothing is sent until then. You can also open any draft in Posts and change it first.

Team members can't see or use the library. Creating drafts needs a connected account on the chosen channel. If the brand has none, or an item is already drafted, nothing is created and you'll see a message.

Suggest several posts from one article

One article can give you several posts with the same content but a different angle. In the item library, click Suggest N posts on an item and pick how many (1 to 8), the channel and the account.

  • Flomixy writes all the variants in one AI request (a question, a tip, a quote or fact, a call to action, and more). It reads the text of that article's page, or uses the title and description from the feed if the page can't be read.
  • You see a preview. Under each text you'll see how long it is next to the limit of the channel (for example 310 / 2200 bytes). A text over the limit is highlighted and Create drafts stays greyed out until you shorten it. Edit any text, remove the ones you don't want, then confirm. Each confirmed variant becomes its own draft, spaced out by the start date, how many per week, the day and the time you choose. Nothing is scheduled or published until you approve it.
  • Links follow each network's rule: Instagram and TikTok get "Link in bio", the other networks get the article link.
  • If the item already has AI drafts, you'll see how many exist. You can still continue, and a new variant with the same text as an existing one is left out.
  • One request uses one unit of your monthly AI limit.
  • If AI is unavailable or your monthly limit is used up, you still get variants: simple templates (title and link, description and link, a question and link), marked template. They don't use any of your AI limit. The question in a template is written in your language when it is Serbian, English, German, French, Spanish or Portuguese, and in English otherwise.
  • You need permission to create posts.

Limits

  • Up to 10 feeds per brand.
  • Up to 200 items in a feed's library. The oldest New and Ignored items are dropped first. Drafted items are kept.
  • Up to 5 new drafts per feed in each check. If a feed publishes more at once, the rest are picked up on the next checks.
  • Feed addresses must be public. Private or internal addresses are rejected.

Pause, edit or delete a feed

Each feed shows its channel, account and when it was Last checked.

  • Use the switch next to a feed to pause or resume it.
  • Edit feed changes the name, URL, channel or account.
  • Delete feed removes the feed. Posts already drafted from it stay.

Choose how often a feed is checked

When you add or edit a feed, pick Check for new items: every 15 minutes, every hour (the default), every 6 hours, every 24 hours, or Manual sync only. A feed set to manual only is never checked automatically, but Sync now still works. Checking less often is fine for blogs that post a few times a week.

Check a feed right now

You don't have to wait for the next automatic check. Click the Sync now button (the circular arrows) on a feed to fetch it immediately.

  • New items become drafts straight away, and a message tells you how many were created.
  • If there is nothing new, you'll see Synced — no new items.
  • A feed you've just added only marks its existing items as seen, so it won't flood your drafts.
  • Each feed can be synced once a minute. The button stays greyed out until you can use it again.
  • If Flomixy turned the feed off after repeated errors, a successful Sync now turns it back on. If it still can't be read, it stays off and you'll see an error.

Pick several images and make a carousel

In the feed's item library, click Choose images on an item. Flomixy then looks at that one article and offers every different image it finds: the feed's own image, the article's preview image and the pictures in the text (up to 10).

  • Click the images in the order you want. The numbers show the order, and with more than one image the draft becomes a carousel. One image makes a normal image post.
  • Each channel has its own limit (for example 10 on Instagram, 1 on LinkedIn). Once you reach it, further clicks are blocked and the limit is shown.
  • Instagram and TikTok can't post without an image. An item with none is marked No image and can't be turned into a draft until you pick or paste an image address.
  • Images that are private, not pictures, or larger than 20 MB are skipped; the other images and the draft are still created.
  • Opening the library never contacts the article sites. Only the item you open is checked.

If a feed stops working

If a feed can't be read 10 checks in a row (for example the address changed or the site is down), Flomixy turns it off. Fix the address with Edit feed, then switch it back on, or click Sync now to try again.
