Getting posts approved before they publish

Last updated on Sep 30, 2026

If your workflow requires sign-off (for example an agency publishing on behalf of a client), turn on Require client approval in the composer's Approval step and pick an approver from your workspace members.

How it works

  • A post that requires approval will not publish - even at its scheduled time - until it is approved.
  • The approver reviews the post on a dedicated review page and can either Approve it or Request changes with a note.
  • When changes are requested, the post's author - and the approver, if one was assigned - get a notification in the bell and an email right away, so you don't have to keep checking back. The note is attached to the post so you know exactly what to fix - it's shown right on the post's detail page, with a Send for review button next to it - once you've made your edits, click it there to notify the approver again without leaving the page.
  • If the note doesn't actually need a change to the caption or media - for example the client just wants the time moved, or the note doesn't apply anymore - click Mark as resolved next to it instead. This clears the note and sends the post back for review without requiring you to edit anything first. You can add an optional message of your own, which will be included the next time you send the post for review.
  • Once approved, the post publishes at its scheduled time as usual.

Tips

  • You can change or clear the approver at any time before submitting - click the selected person again to deselect.
  • The Approvals page lists everything waiting for review in one place, and also has its own Send for review action for any post that's still pending. The Changes requested tab also offers Mark as resolved from its own menu, so you can clear a note without opening the post.
